Teaching is face-to-face combined with online learning resources available via our Moodle Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). We offer classes for this programme at our modern, well-equipped campus at Limehouse.

We are currently taking admissions to the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning programme for June 2022. Please apply online or contact us

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

The OTHM, Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning, provides an ideal continuation opportunity for students on the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training. The programme is more suited to students who already have a Bachelor's Honours degree award even though Teaching on this programme is equivalent in rigour to a degree.

The focus of the course is on teaching practice: modules cover Lesson Planning, Curriculum Design and Class Dynamics. Upon completing this course, you will be ready to take on a career as a Primary or Secondary School teacher.

The course encourages students to think at a deeper and more critical level than Level 5 studies. Alongside developing the key mechanics, you will reflect on your personality and preferred ways of working.

Successful completion of this course will enable you to progress to further study at Level 7 or embark on a teaching career.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

For entry onto the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification, learners may:

  • Possess a relevant NQF/QCF/RQF Level 5 diploma or equivalent recognised qualification

Applicants must be:

  • 18 years or older at the beginning of the course or
  • Mature learners (over 21) with management experience

Applicants who are not from a majority English-speaking country must provide evidence of English language competency.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a method of assessment that considers whether learners can demonstrate that they can meet the evaluation requirements for a unit through knowledge, understanding or skills they already possess and do not need to develop through a course of learning.

We use some terms to describe the RPL process. Among the most common are:

  • Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)
  • Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)
  • Accreditation of Prior Learning and Achievement (APLA)

In all cases, we evaluate learner evidence concerning the stipulated learning outcomes and assessment criteria against the respective unit(s). The assessor must be satisfied that the evidence produced by the learner meets the assessment standard established by the learning outcome and its related assessment criteria at that particular level. Most often, we use RPL for units.

It is not acceptable to claim for an entire qualification through RPL. Students must request at the application stage to use RPL as part of the entry criteria

ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPETENCY

Please note that the OTHM Level 6 Diploma in Teaching and Learning qualification is taught and assessed entirely in English. All Applicants applying for all entry onto the programme therefore need to demonstrate English language skills.

  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2

  • IELTS 5.5 (reading and writing must be at 5.5

The level of English will be assessed as part of the selection process using a written statement and an interview.
